MOSCOW—Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron on his re-election and defeat of far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, the Kremlin stated Monday, as tensions stay over the Ukraine battle.
“I sincerely want you success in your state actions, in addition to good well being and well-being,” Putin stated in a telegram to Macron, in response to an announcement from the Kremlin.

Macron was one of many few Western leaders to contact Putin since Moscow moved troops into Ukraine, spending hours on phone calls making an attempt to barter a decision to the battle.
However whereas retaining its diplomatic channels to Moscow open, France below Macron has joined the barrage of worldwide sanctions on Russia imposed over the army marketing campaign.
Macron secured a victory over Le Pen in a second spherical of voting over the weekend, defeating his far-right rival who was accused of hyperlinks to Russia.
